The remarkable Cornell West

In my book, Dr. West is a Linchpin.

Here is another clip from the Colbert Report

So return to one of your linchpins from the Padlet assignment last week.

Select one to write a very brief APA summary of.  The example I will be using is the remarkable Cornell West.

Here will be the parts of your APA paper (if you've taken Mr. Lingen's College Government class, this will be review for you).

1.  Cover page
2.  Abstract
3.  Actual Summary (must include one direct quote).
4.  Bibliography

I will hand out my sample paper in class today.

  1. It's easy to copy or "remix" music. I wouldn't consider myself a good musician by any means, but I have remixed and performed five of my "own" tunes over the last few years. I don't know if they are any good, but it is extremely easy to combine elements of music into different elements and make them into your own.

  2. If you are complaining about people taking bits and pieces of different movies and putting them into their own you are just looking for something to complain about. Unless you are the producer of a film that had something taken, who cares? Honestly, your ideas probably aren't original, anyway. I do think that taking ideas and reusing segments can be an effective tool. For example, in the recent film "The Conjuring," the main demon/witch's name was Bathsheba. Bathsheba is a reference to a story from the Bible, and hearing the name immediately changed the way I looked at the movie. It was used as foreshadow, in a sense. That maybe was coincidence, but it fit so well with the story line that I doubt it. It was extremely effective in my opinion.
