For Ch. 4 and 5:
1. Create an infograph or flow chart to illustrate Newport's Rule #2: Be So Good They Can't Ignore You (Or, the Importance of Skill) that is discussed in chapters 4 and 5.
Your info graph or flowchart must include these things:
The craftsman’s mindset
Your definition of Career Capital
Traits that define great work
Career capital theory of Great work
Be sure to put these ideas and concepts into your own words. Don't simply regurgitate what Newport has said.
Here are the services that allow you to create infographs or flowcharts:
Infogram
Easel.ly (my personal favorite)
Glogster
Please have these finished by class on Monday (9.8)
Here is my info graph.
*****
For Ch. 6 and 7
After reading these two chapters and taking the quiz on Monday, do these two assignments.
1. Interview or talk to someone whom you consider to be "so good they can't be ignored." Ask them these three questions. Be ready to share the results on Tuesday.
First, how did you wind up in your profession?
Second, did you follow a passion or discover that your passion is a byproduct of your current work?
Third, do you have any of these three traits in your current job: autonomy/freedom, impact, and creativity?
2. Write a two page essay in which you explain a time you deliberately practiced something as part of the craftsman's mindset. This may come in handy for our first large project for So Good They Can't Ignore You.
This will be due on Tuesday (9.9)
